Bio

I research the impact of technologies on individuals, communities, and organizations. The author of eight books, including The End of Forgetting: Growing Up with Social Media (Harvard University Press, 2019) and Content (MIT Press, 2022), I am best known for my ability to translate complex ideas about culture and digital platforms into accessible narratives for public, policy, and media audiences.

As Professor of Culture and Media Studies at The New School, I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in media theory, media history, and cultural studies. I have also held key leadership roles, including program director, department chair, and school dean.

As a consultant, I provide research, advisory, and strategic communications support to individuals and organizations across industries, including technology, media, design, and education.

A dual US-Canadian citizen, I have worked and lived in cities across North America from Vancouver to Boston. Since 2008, I have called New York City home.
